COMMERCIAL THEATER INSTITUTE (CTI) Three Day Intensive 2020

COMMERCIAL THEATER INSTITUTE (CTI)

  • holds its Three Day Intensive from Friday March 6 thru Sunday March 8, 2020.
  • The Three Day Intensive is one of the best introductions to the realities of commercial theater that exists anywhere.
  • It is not just for producers, it is for anyone interested in understanding current theater.
  • It is also an introduction (and rite of passage!) for anyone thinking about theatrical producing.
  • I've done it twice! and it is terrific!

CTI MATING GAME -- WRITERS + PRODUCERS

The Mating Game
Joint One Day Seminar

COMMERCIAL THEATER INSTITUTE
PRODUCERS
♥♥♥
NY MUSICAL THEATER FESTIVAL
WRITERS

Friday, September 24th, 2010, 10:00am – 5:00pm

Price: $160/Pre-Registration (Includes Box Lunch)

Direct from The Commercial Theater Institute (CTI) here is advance notice of a brand new CTI course for Friday September 24th – The Mating Game.

The idea is to expose producers to writers and vice versa by creating a day of presentations, one-on-one interaction and group presentations. We will meet at Theatre Row from 10am – 5pm, lunch and the ever-popular networking reception are included in the $160 fee.

Why should you take this seminar, if you are a producer? To improve your understanding of theatre writers’ needs and sensibilities; to refine your project-pitching skills, and to meet a slew of younger musical writers, learn about their projects and perhaps form some partnerships.

We only have room for 36 spots and about 1/3 of them are already spoken for. Please go to our website

and plan to join us.

Produced with the New York Musical Theatre Festival, the one day program brings together twelve creative teams with thirty-six early career producers to share ideas, explore common interests and learn the fundamentals for forming productive creative relationships. There will be lectures and panel discussions as well as a “mini-project” with producer-writer teams developing “creative pitch” presentations. The day concludes with a networking reception.

Limited to 36 producers/participants.

The Mating Game: Joint One Day Seminar with NYMF Writers
Friday, September 24th, 2010, 10:00am – 5:00pm

Price: $160/Pre-Registration (Includes Box Lunch)

The Commercial Theater Institute (CTI)
is the pre-eminent training ground for anyone who wishes to be a professional theater producer. I took their 3-day course and I can attest to the quality of their offerings. This is a great organization to know, and if you want to be a theatrical prooducer, it is vital to take the opportunities they present to learn and to network.

CTI - THE COMMERCIAL THEATER INSTITUTE - SPRING EVENTS

CTI, The Commercial Theater Institute,

is having two programs in the spring that are extraordinarily valuable for anyone interested in theater. I've attended (see the post below) the 3-Day Weekend event and I would strongly recommend it, not only for (current & potential future) producers, but for anyone (writers, directors, lawyers, investors, actors, and...well, anyone) interested in developing projects for the commercial theater. This is far and away the most accessible, interesting, informative, useful event about theater I've ever encountered.

Producing Reading, Workshops, and Showcases: A Practical Approach will have its spring session on March 6th, from 10am – 6pm, at Theatre Row.

Many new topics and speakers have been added since the December program.

The fee for the day is $140 in advance, $175 at the door.

The 28th Annual 3-Day Weekend Producing Conference (May 15th – 17th) is now accepting registrations. The early bird price is $335 by March 27th.

Registration forms for both events are on the CTI website.

CTI - THE COMMERCIAL THEATER INSTITUTE

One of the best sources of information about theater, for anyone interested in producing, investing, or just understanding commercial theater, is CTI. CTI: The Commercial Theater Institute, has several programs of increaing depth that provide a basic to fairly advanced understanding of what it means to create a commercial theater production.

The first program they have, which is a prerequisite for the others, is a three day weekend seminar headlined by active producers of current shows, and other experts, on Broadway development. (I've taken this seminar and it is terrific!) They have a more advanced fourteen day program and a Creative Development Intensive seminar.

Dates for the 2008 3 day seminar have been announced: May 2 - 4 2008. Here is the description from CTI:

Three Day Program
A Program for Prospective Producers, General Managers and Investors

Open to anyone interested in producing, co-producing or investing in the commercial theatre - Broadway, Off Broadway, Touring Broadway, and elsewhere - this program takes place over a weekend each spring. The 2008 edition will be May 2 - 4.

Held at a Broadway or Off Broadway theatre near Times Square, the program offers practical information of interest to prospective producers, general managers, and investors.

Each session consists of presentations and panel discussions with experienced producers, general managers, entertainment attorneys, and managing directors who offer specific case histories that illustrate the various means of developing theatrical productions.

This program is of special interest to anyone exploring relationships between the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors in the development of a theatre project.

CTI 3-Day Program
May 2 - 4 2008
Fee: $435.00
Please check back in February 2008 for registration information.

You may add your name to their mailing list and they will contact you when the program is opened for registration: http://www.commercialtheaterinstitute.com/program-emails.html
